MCT is delighted to announce our next streaming video project: the World Premiere of Between Kitsch & Quarantine, by MCT member, Elisabeth Majewski. It is an incredible honor to be able to support the fine work of one of our most dedicated contributors!
This project began as a series of monologues and has evolved over the course of the pandemic to become an integrated production that will stream to audiences on May 6, 7, 8, and 9.
As Elisabeth was refining her piece, she invited a dozen of actors from community theater companies in the area to collaborate with her on the script. Over the course of six months, they helped her shape the final draft by way of virtual readings. It seemed logical, therefore, to bypass auditions, and to offer the roles to the actors who helped to create them. Rehearsals are underway and so are a series of photo shoots to create the artwork that accompanies the show.
Set in the backdrop of the COVID pandemic, Between Kitsch & Quarantine reveals the inner lives of fifteen characters involved in an art contest, designed to foster creativity and community. Entrants explore their inventive sides by recreating a classical work of art, using whatever is on hand. We learn what moves them, what matters to them, and how they support one another in this humorous and uplifting show.
We’re so grateful for all of our members’ loyalty and support throughout the COVID crisis. Your Board of Directors has been working hard throughout to ensure our financial well-being and to create as many opportunities as possible. We are currently exploring additional shows that can be staged safely and hope to announce audition opportunities in the coming months. Thank you for being a part of MCT!
